NEWS PORTAL NAVIGATION

Viewing Menu

Eqentia News Portal Viewing MenuAll Headlines

This is the default view – what you see when you first arrive at a portal, or when you click on the portal name in the page header. This View shows a “River of News” with the newest articles on top. You can preview an article (in a pop-up window), reTweet it, or get directed to its source. This page also includes a Tweet count and a live Twitter Widget customized for that portal.

Top Stories by Social Attention

This view displays the most popular articles from the past 36 hours, according to the Eqentia ranking algorithm. This view is most useful on general news topics that are widely covered.

Top Stories by Relevancy

Rather than viewing the newest articles on top, you can choose to see the articles most relevant to the portal.

TIP:
To save time when jumping between these three views you do not need to return to the drop-down menu. You can instead use the 3 buttons near the top of each page:
Eqentia News Portals - 3 portal view buttons

News Stream Only

This view shows articles in a text-only column, with the same sorting options as above.

Eqentia News Portal View - News Stream Only

Latest Stories by Newsgroup

A newsgroup is a collection of the latest articles from a particular type of source, e.g. Blogs, Magazines, Main Media, Company News, Twitter, etc. This view will display articles in their respective Newsgroups. You can click on any Newsgroup to see only the articles from this Newsgroup.

Semantic Map (also called Connections Map)

This View reveals the hierarchical taxonomy of the portal, enabling you to dive deeply into the content that is most important to you. Here is a typical section of a Semantic Map:

Eqentia Semantic Map example

In the example above, you can see that within the Advertising Agency “entity”, the most active Connection is Saatchi and Saatchi. You have a choice of two timeframes – the past 24 hours or the past month – selectable using the links near the top of the page. Click on any of the Connections to read more.

Eqentia News Portal View - AnnotationsAll Annotations

If the administrator(s) of this portal has annotated articles (e.g. adding their own commentary or additional information) this view will show you their annotations and links to the original articles, as in the example shown at right.

Twitter Leaderboard

This page ranks today’s top tweeters (people whose tweets have appeared on this portal). Tweeters are ranked by the number of times they have tweeted and been retweeted. Their latest tweet is shown.

To the right of their rank, you can see the change in their ranking since 11:59 pm yesterday. The page displays up to 100 top tweeters.

Preferred Sources

If your portal owner has designated certain news sources as Preferred, this view will show you content from those sources only.

Refine Portal by Semantic Connection

Click on the red button beside a portal’s title to see semantic Connections. To find a particular connection, you can select an Entity (e.g. People, Region) or scroll left and right to see all Connections.

Eqentia Refine Portal by Semantic Connection

Eqentia News Portal View - Cascading Refinements

Cascading refinements

If you go to a connection page (e.g. “Jay Rosen”) and then click on another connection (e.g. “New York Times Company”) you will then see all articles that relate to both Jay Rosen AND New York Times Company.

Canceling Cascading Refinements

If, for example, you want to change from viewing all articles related to Jay Rosen to viewing all articles referring to the New York Times Company, you must return to the portal front page and restart the refining process by selecting “New York Times Company”.

Folders

Every Eqentia user has at least two folders for saving articles. These are accessed by mousing over your photo or name at top right and clicking on My Folders.

Personal FolderSaving to an Eqentia Folder

This folder is for long-term storage of articles. To put an article in your Personal Folder, click on the folder icon below the article text. Then choose Personal.

Group Folder

The Group Folder is only available to corporate license customers with 10 or more users per organization.

This feature allows users to share articles via a commonly accessible folder that is visible only to users of the same domain. In essence, it functions like a private social bookmarks repository.
